Admission Requirements
Academy classes are limited to 25 cadets.
To be considered for enrollment in the Paris Junior College Law Enforcement Academy, applicants must meet all eligibility standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and the Law Enforcement Academy Advisory Board.
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be 21 years of age
- A student 18 years of age or older is eligible for licensing if the student:
- has received an Associate’s Degree; or 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or
- has received an Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States after at least two (2) years of service.
- A student 18 years of age or older is eligible for licensing if the student:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must be of good moral character
- Must be admitted to Paris Junior College
- No Class B Misdemeanor convictions in the past 10 years. *
- No Class A Misdemeanor or felony convictions. *
- No conviction for any family violence offense. *
- Must not be prohibited by state or federal law from
- Possessing firearms or ammunition.
- Operating a motor vehicle
- Must not have received a Dishonorable Discharge from the military
- Applicants must complete personal interview with Academy staff.
- Applicants must successfully pass the following:
- A physical examination
- A psychological examination
- A drug screening
- All paperwork must be returned to Academy Staff upon completion.
This information will be verified by Academy staff. Academy staff reserves the right to request additional documentation to verify any requirements of Paris Junior College, the Law Enforcement Academy, or TCOLE. (See TCOLE RULE 217.1)
