Non-Employed Academy Application & Admission Requirements for Enrollment

If you are not currently employed with a law enforcement agency, you will apply to the PJC Law Enforcement Academy as a “non-employed” applicant.  Please carefully read all of the following information before beginning your application.

Do NOT begin the screening phase until your initial application has been accepted and approved by the Academy Director.  After your initial application has been accepted, the Academy Director will provide you with a packet containing all the forms and information needed to complete the application process.

The non-employed application consists of two phases: 1-Initial Application & 2-Screening

  1. Application to Paris Junior College
  2. Interview with Academy Staff
  3. Personal History Statement (PHS)
    1. Carefully read the instructions on page 3&4 of the PHS before filling anything out.
    2. Type your information directly into the PHS, print it out, initial the bottom right corner of every page, and turn it into the Academy office.  Do NOT fill out the form by hand.
    3. You must answer every single question. Do NOT leave any questions blank.  Do NOT remove any pages from the PHS.  If a question is not applicable to you, enter “N/A” or “Not Applicable” in the space provided.
    4. Incomplete or incorrectly filled out PHS’s WILL NOT be accepted.
    5. Do NOT sign the last page until you turn it into the Academy office. Academy staff will notarize your PHS.
    6. Make sure to save a copy of your PHS before printing it.
  4. Non-employed sponsorship form
    1. The academy requires that all applicants to the BPOC have a sponsoring agency. A Chief Administrator from any law enforcement agency in the State of Texas may sponsor a student.
    2. Agencies that sponsor a student are under no financial obligation and are not obligated to employ the student. The sponsorship form must be signed by the Chief Administrator of their agency and notarized.
  5. Non-employed sponsorship declaration form
    1. Do NOT sign this form until it is turned into the Academy Office. Academy staff will notarize the form.
  6. Drug use declaration form
    1. Do NOT sign this form until it is turned into the Academy Office.  Academy staff will notarize the form.
  7. Authorization to release information form
    1. Do NOT sign this form until it is turned into the Academy Office.  Academy staff will notarize the form.
  8. Supporting documentation.

After a non-employed applicant’s application has been conditionally approved, the applicant will move on to phase 2.

  1. L2 (physical exam / drug screen)
  2. L3 (psychological evaluation)
  3. Criminal History check (FAST Fingerprints)
  4. Texas DPS Driver Records check
